Brewing news Singapore: Asia Pacific Breweries announces new appointments in its senior management team

Asia Pacific Breweries Ltd is pleased to announce, on May 4, the following changes in its senior management team with effect from 1 July 2007:

Dr Les Buckley, 46, will focus on his role as Regional Director, Southeast Asia/Oceania; a role which he has undertaken since December 2006 and relinquish his responsibilities as Director, Group Commercial. As Regional Director, Dr Buckley will be responsible for the profitability of key business units and business development activities in Malaysia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Mongolia. Dr Buckley has been with the Group since 1989.

Edmond Neo, 42, who is currently the General Manager of Asia Pacific Breweries Lanka Ltd, will be taking on the position of General Manager, Group Commercial. He will be responsible for the brand development of all the Group’s brands globally including its flagship brand, Tiger, as well as Anchor, ABC Stout and Baron’s Strong Brew. Mr Neo possesses extensive experience in regional marketing and commercial operations, having spent several of his 15 years in the Group working in its breweries in Singapore, New Zealand, Cambodia and Sri Lanka.

James Wong, 44, currently General Manager, Tiger Export Pte Ltd and responsible for all export markets for Tiger, will, in addition, oversee Asia Pacific Breweries (Singapore) Pte Ltd. As General Manager, Tiger Export Pte Ltd/Singapore, he will be accountable for the profitability of the Singapore brewery as well as all export markets. He has been working in the APB group of companies since 1992 and has varied expertise in marketing, brand building, commercial operations and project management. As General Manager of Tiger Export Pte Ltd since 2002, Mr Wong oversees all export markets for Tiger and has extended the footprint of the flagship beer by making it available in many new markets.

Alan Gourdie, 45, will leave the Group’s brewery in Singapore where he has been General Manager since 2004, for the United Kingdom to assume the position of Managing Director of Tiger Beer UK Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tiger Export Pte Ltd. Tiger Beer UK Ltd was set up in 2005 and spearheads all of Tiger’s marketing and commercial activities in the UK. Prior to his years at the Singapore operations where he was responsible for developing and strengthening the business, Mr Gourdie was Global Marketing Manager for Heineken International where he was responsible for Heineken’s international marketing, which included market support and development strategy, advertising and sponsorship programmes for the brand.

Bennett Neo, 38, as the new General Manager of the Group’s Singapore operations, will be responsible for its overall management of strategic and operational matters including Sales, Marketing, Technical and Business Development. Upon joining the Group in 2005, Mr Neo was seconded to Tiger Beer UK Ltd as its General Manager and was responsible for starting up the subsidiary and oversaw its development in the UK. Prior to joining the Group, he was with a petrochemical company and worked in several countries including Hong Kong, China, USA, Japan and Vietnam. In his new role, Mr Neo reports to Mr James Wong.
